Poltrona Frau: Evoking elegance and perfection
Elegant, evocative and intelligently designed — these are the words to describe Poltrona Frau’s furniture pieces.
Founded by Renzo Frau in Turin, Italy in 1912, Poltrona Frau is a furniture brand with a long and illustrious history. It has been known for its iconic furniture designs that reflect the emerging Art Deco style and noted for intensive quality standards, as 95 percent of its products are made by hand. The company uses a 21-step leather tanning process, where full-grain leather is dyed through, maintaining the natural softness and durability of the finest hides. The result is the patented Pelle Frau leather.
With a process that has been perfected through time, Poltrona Frau leads on top of the furniture line, evoking intimate and timeless elegance — the personality of each individual piece is the fruit of the craftsman’s skill and a design that enhances handcrafted workmanship even in the most modest form. Many of its earlier pieces remain in its collection today and are a testament to its heritage
Over the last century, Poltrona Frau has integrated modern materials with production techniques relying on the expertise of generations of artisans.
Recently, the company revealed a limited-edition collection featuring the Sanluca armchair covered with original fabric inspired by Swiss graphic designer Max Huber’s drawing, Geophysics Waves, on the iconic armchair by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni.
A limited edition of only 100 — 50 black with white pattern and 50 white with black pattern is made of bespoke wool and cotton fabric. The graphic waves of Huber’s drawing cover the sculptural waves of the Sanluca chair. Ergonomic and avant-garde, the shape is contoured to beautifully fit a user’s body.
Another new product is the Cestlavie, a storage basket that also works as a table. Designer Gam Fratesi took inspiration from the traditional sewing basket. Using Saddle Extra leather straps, each is individually hand-woven to form the basket. The “lid” is covered in Pelle Frau leather, while the base is made of a tubular aluminum structure.
The Byron is a new chaise longue designed by Jean-Marie Massaud. The structure accommodates the soft leather seat that is designed for long periods of relaxation. Every element of the Byron contributes to creating a wonderfully private refuge; the chaise longue will wrap you in its comfortable embrace.
Poltrona Frau is the leader of Residential, Contract and Interiors in Motion industries. Over the years, the company has worked on several projects including with the Italian Parliament, the Royal House of Savoy, Japan Airlines (JAL), Cathay Pacific, Walt Disney, Ferrari, Singapore Airlines and Etihad Airways, to name a few.
