Your favorite Gap sweatshirt gets a designer makeover

- Marbbie Tagabucba

Tis the season for the logo sweatshirt. You can dress it up or dress it down for the countless holiday parties to come. Guys can top it with a blazer, while ladies can opt for the unexpected tulle midi ball skirt. Consider the reinvented Gap logo sweatshirt by some of the world’s fashion superstars: Olivier Rousteing of Balmain, twins Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared2, Massimo Giorgetti of MSGM, Tremaine Emory and Acyde of No Vacancy Inn, Chris Josol of Surf is Dead, Chris Stamp of Stampd, Pierre Mahéo of Officine , and Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony, all applying their signature style to this piece of fashion history.

It’s part of the return of Gap’s partnership with menswear authority GQ, in line with the print and digital magazine’s annual “Coolest Designers on the Planet” program, which recognizes top menswear designers from around the world and enlists them to recreate limited-edition versions of staple pieces.

“This year, the key was zeroing in on an iconic piece — the Gap sweatshirt — and using it as a fresh design challenge,” says GQ editor-in-chief Jim Nelson. “I was so impressed by the energy and creativity with which these amazing designers leapt at that challenge.”

Says John Caruso, Gap VP of men’s design, “For Gap, the logo sweatshirt is one of our most iconic styles, so it was a natural fit to challenge this group of highly regarded menswear designers to collaborate on reinventing this classic.”

The Gap x GQ collection launches with the new Gap.com.ph, the American retailer’s e-commerce website in the Philippines, carrying the full range of the Gap holiday 2018 collection for women, men, and kids, along with some online exclusives, ready for delivery straight to your doorstep.

The diversity of creative approaches is evident in each Gap x GQ piece, ranging from bold, statement-making pieces like Olivier’s American flag hoodie as his tribute to Gap and “the American dream,” to understated details like the crowd favorite, D’Squared twins’ zip-up side-vents or the more classic Officine Générale — but a closer inspection reveals rebellious, anti-preppy distressed edges. There’s something for everybody.

Limited-edition Gap x GQ sweatshirts are sold exclusively at Alabang Town Center, SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, TriNoma, and Gap.com.ph. Nationwide shipping is available. Follow Gap on Facebook or Instagram @GapPhilippines for updates. In the Philippines, Gap is exclusively distributed by Casual Clothing Retailers, Inc., a member of SSI Group, Inc.
