BIGGER, BRIGHTER GIANT LANTERN FESTIVAL LIGHTS UP THE HOLIDAYS IN PAMPANGA

-

Take pride and give a toast to Filipino craftsmanship as Pampanga ushers in a bigger, brighter Giant Lantern Festival in San Fernando City this year. The annual festival coincides with the celebration of the city’s 110th year of Giant Lantern making excellence.

For over a decade, Robinsons Starmills has been the official venue partner of the Giant Lantern Festival. The beloved tradition is an even bigger, brighter spectacle this year as 11 barangays are vying for top honors in the festival, which features 20-foothigh lanterns containing as many as 10,000 bulbs each.

Dubbed as Ligligan Parul (lantern showdown) in the Kapampangan dialect, the Giant Lantern Festival is a showcase of the city’s rich and colorful lantern-making tradition, culminating in a competition among manually operated Giant Lanterns.

The astonishing creativity and excellent workmanship exhibited by lantern creators has earned the city its reputation as the “Christmas Capital of the Philippines” and “Home of the Giant Lanterns.” Locally, it also opened opportunities for the lantern industry and elevated the San Fernando Parol as a truly Filipino Christmas icon.
