IT was the original crossover—back when the term “crossover” wasn’t even invented.

It’s the Toyota RAV 4—and the country’s number one car company once again not only flexes its muscles in the burgeoning crossover/SUV segment, but decides to take on all other brands as they unleash the all-new fifth-generation RAV 4.

One glance and you’ll see that the 2019 RAV 4 boasts an edgy new design paired with the promise of better performance and capability made possible by the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) — a platform that applies Toyota’s principles and technologies to improve its vehicles’ agility, stability, and visibility.

TMP President Satoru Suzuki said during the launch held at the Bonifacio High Street Amphitheater last Friday that, “the allnew RAV 4 is a car that embodies Toyota’s values - from its sporty design, powerful performance, and outstanding safety features. Built with the Toyota New Global Architecture, we can expect this SUV to deliver only the best driving experience.”

At first glance, the new RAV 4 is reminiscent of the distinctive sculpted style of a Lexus SUV. Now with all-new features and a major design change, the 2019 RAV 4 aims to highlight urban adventure at its finest. Styled with a sportier and bolder design, the new RAV 4 possesses an aggressive road presence heretofore not seen in its predecessors.

With its chiseled exterior, one can easily notice the ‘cross-octagon’ styling of its body, which combines a wide wedge-shaped front that links with an octagon-shaped rear. This embodies the robust yet upscale design, which the RAV 4 stands for. Accentuating its head-turning new fascia, the RAV 4 now presents a two-tiered upper and lower trapezoidal grille that creates a wide and stable feel and a strong presence expected of an SUV.

In addition to its sportier facade, the new RAV4 now features new alloy wheel designs in all configurations, regardless of whether customers choose the 17- or 18- inch option.

Its lowered center of gravity and high-rigidity body structure are just a few of the all-new RAV 4’s features built upon the TNGA as it also features a lower belt line, repositioned outer mirrors now mounted on the door (instead of the A pillar), and a thinner, low-set instrument panel that has sleek horizontal lines flowing into the door panels for outstanding visibility.

Also inspired by the TNGA platform, the RAV 4 is now equipped with a new front and rear suspension for a supple ride with responsive handling and a new powerful 2.5L (A25A-FKS) Dynamic Force Engine with Dual VVT-I with VVT-iE (Variable valve timing intelligent system by Electric motor) that delivers responsive performance with less fuel consumption and low emissions.

Paired with the new engine is a direct-shift 8-speed automatic transmission, which features a multi-plate lock-up clutch that provides a wider lock up range allowing shifting and acceleration to be smoother and faster. Furthermore, the 8 speeds also support the transmission with more power and torque while accelerating from a standstill, suppressing engine speeds at high speed cruising for a quieter cabin and lower fuel consumption.

SPACIOUS, REFINED INTERIOR

Inside, the RAV 4 now highlights upgraded and user-friendly features and technology such as a 7-inch multi-info display that can be switched between analog and digital display modes, a wireless charger, and an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with memory and lumbar support.

Complementing its luxurious design, this new vehicle is now accessorized with seat heaters, soft-touch dashboard and panels, rear cooler, leather seats, and a panoramic moon roof.

ADVANCED SAFETY FEATURES

Going beyond the Toyota standard, the all-new RAV 4 boasts with unparalleled

safety features such as seven airbags, 8-eye front & rear sensor, back-up camera, antilock brake system with emergency brake signal, and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) — completing the promise of a pleasurable driving experience with added peace of mind.

The all-new RAV 4 comes in six colors: White Pearl, Red Mica Metallic, Silver Metallic, Gray Metallic, Urban Khaki, and Cyan Metallic—plus three colors available on special order (Super White, Attitude Black, and Dark Blue Mica Metallic).

The 2019 RAV 4 is available in three variants: the LE priced at P1,638,000.00, the midrange XLE priced at P1,870,000.00, and the top-of-the-line LTD at P2,188,000.00.

Since its debut 25 years ago, the RAV 4 has been a pioneer, redefining the crossover SUV segment with augmented features, modern design, and refined performance.
