The luxe liquid lippie at a democratic price

The matte liquid lip trend is all very well, but I never really got into it because I find most formulas too drying. My lips tend to chap, to begin with, and putting a matte lippie on top of it is like adding sand to a desert.

But the beauty folks at L’Oreal are so on top of things they’ve already developed a technologically advanced Version 2.0: Rouge Signature, a 10-shade collection of matte liquid lipsticks.

“It’s really a revolutionary lipstick because there’s none of its kind in the mass market,” says Cary Co, marketing director at L’Oreal PH. “This is a formula present in luxury brands — it actually got inspiration from our sister brands YSL and Giorgio Armani. Now we’re bringing it to democratize it and let everyone use it.”

Co notes that, like me, some women don’t like to use liquid lipstick because it tends to be heavy and sticky, but Rouge Signature is so lightweight it glides on as smoothly as a tint or a stain, yet gives you double the pigment of a normal lipstick. And when it dries to a matte finish it doesn’t shrivel your lips into unsightly lines and cracks.

“The collection goes from nudes to pinks to reds to dark browns, so it’s very, very wearable and we’re very confident that Filipinas will look good in it,” Co says.

It’s true: all the shades are really flattering to Pinoy skin tones. My faves for everyday day wear are the pink-nudes I Rule, I Choose and I Embrace; and for evening or more dramatic occasions, the reds I Represent and I Am Worth It.

The capper is each tube is only P390, less than 30 percent of the price of Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet or YSL Tatouage Couture. For me, that is revolutionary indeed.
