Family of 4 nabbed for drugs in San Juan

Two siblings along with their uncle and cousin were apprehended during a police raid on a suspected drug den in San Juan City on Thursday night.

Brothers Juanjo Carl, 27, and Robert Joseph, 24, their uncle Robert, 55, and cousin Jason, 28, all surnamed Chua, did not resist arrest when operatives of the San Juan police station drug enforcement unit (SDEU) swooped down on their house along San Marcos street in Barangay Perfecto at around 8:30 p.m.

The Chuas allegedly yielded 32 sachets of shabu with an estimated value of P16,500 and drug paraphernalia.

“The family openly sold shabu to customers who went to their house, which they used as a drug den,” city police chief Senior Superintendent Dindo Reyes said.

SDEU head Senior Inspector Edwin Malabanan said the arrest of the suspects came after weeks of surveillance.

Malabanan said three other suspects, believed to be clients of the Chuas, managed to escape.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Danilo Cruz of the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 152, a police team led by Senior Police Officer 1 Gerald Crisostomo and PO2 Alexander Dedumo raided the suspects’ house.

Probers said the siblings’ father had been allegedly pushing drugs since 2013. But he suffered a stroke in 2016 and his sons took over the drug business.

Police said Juanjo Carl had surrendered under “Oplan Tokhang” and underwent drug rehabilitation, but he returned to his old ways.

Jayson was first arrested for sale and possession of illegal drugs in 2016. He was released from prison after his case was dismissed in 2018.

Police said the Chuas admitted that they were the source of shabu in the barangay and nearby areas, including Mandaluyong City.

The suspects are being held by police on charges of violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
