Alleged Abu subleader falls in QC

- – Romina Cabrera

A man alleged to be a subleader of the Abu Sayyaf terror group has been arrested in Quezon City, officials said yesterday.

Ibrahim Lambong Mullo, 26, who initially identified himself as Agimar Abi Ahaja, was arrested after he was reportedly found to be carrying an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol and a fragmentation grenade in a sling bag along Ilang-Ilang street in Barangay Batasan Hills at around 7 p.m. on Sept. 27.

Intelligence sources confirmed Mullo was a subleader for the terror group when he was in Sulu, said National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.

It is possible that Mullo may be part of an inactive terror cell in Metro Manila, he added.

Mullo arrived in Metro Manila in January with Arnel Flores Cabintoy alias Musab and Feliciano Mañas Sulayao, who were arrested in June this year for their alleged involvement in the rebellion in Mindanao.

Col. Ronnie Montejo, Quezon City Police District director, said they are trying to determine why Mullo was involved in projects for the construction of housing units for soldiers in Bulacan.

Mullo claimed he moved to Quezon City because his wife recently gave birth and that he was referred to a construction firm by his wife’s uncle.

He admitted that a friend recruited him for the ASG and he underwent one month of training with the group, according to police.

Charges of violating Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, and RA 9516, which regulates the manufacture, distribution and possession of explosives, were filed against Mullo.
