Hermès goes for the heart of raw materials in its home collection
Hermès pays tribute to raw materials for its Collection for The Home 2019-2020. The French luxury brand aims to acknowledge how materiality plays an important role in design. Hermès’ philosophical statement for its latest pieces is as follows:
“Revealing the material is entirely contained within the builder’s actions: combining the useful and the beautiful, finding the right balance, understanding how the void and the filled space reinforce each other, being attentive, respecting what is around us. Materials are never fixed in a definitive state; rather, they are a beginning and a promise, an infinite breeding ground for formal expressions of our era. They often have an orientation — the grain of wood or stone, the direction of fibers — but never just one instruction manual. These lines of strength pay no heed to hierarchy; there is as much nobility in basketry as in porcelain, as much in a strand of wicker as in cashmere cloth. This encounter between man and nature is the story of attentive observation. The regular rings of mahogany tell the tale of a region immersed in an infinite spring, yak down tells of the icy winters of the Central Asian steppes, the tight grain of black granite recounts an underground force... This amazing geography never allows itself to be fully explored, so that the creative action of each generation is anchored in its own time.”
The home and living products featured in the Hermès home collection seek to transform the way people live.
