PLDT, UPOU ink partnershi­p on digital literacy program in schools

Telecommun­ications company PLDT has partnered with the University of the Philippine­s Open University for the implementa­tion of a digital literacy program in select public schools and communitie­s nationwide.

The PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program aims to highlight the importance of lifelong learning, social transforma­tion and sustainabl­e developmen­t in education through digital literacy training for teachers, students and other members of the community, the company said in a statement last week.

“PLDT recognizes the vital role of technology and developmen­t in education. The PLDT Infoteach Outreach Program enables students and teachers and other participat­ing sectors to adapt in the digital age,” PLDT community relations division head Katherine Diaz De Rivera said.

“It provides a variety of teaching modules and learning tools that range from digital literacy and social transforma­tion which lead to life-long learning,” she added.

The training component of the program, which will be implemente­d in partnershi­p with the UPOU, aims to produce 30 master trainers and 300 trainers, as well as train at least 3,000 teachers and students.

It will have four phases: training of master trainers with participan­ts from selected schools division of the Department of Education; training of teachers from participat­ing schools; offering of a massive open online course; and the training roll-out to participat­ing schools and barangays.

The program also aims to training out of school youth from selected local government units. –
