Girl, 7, stabbed to death in Laguna

LAGUNA – A seven-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed to death by a 15-year-old boy in this province on Wednesday. The victim died on the way to the Amante Hospital. Initial investigat­ion showed the incident occurred when the suspect invited the victim to play inside his house.

The boy was placed under the custody of the social welfare office. – Ed Amoroso

Infant dies after slipping from sleeping pa

ILOILO CITY – A six-month-old boy died when he slipped from the hands of his father in Barangay Pescadores, Guimbal, Iloilo on Wednesday night.

Reno Vales, 43, reportedly brought out his son, who had been incessantl­y crying, to calm him down.

Lt. Nelson Caro, Guimbal police chief, said Vales fell asleep atop a seawall with the baby lying on his chest.

Vales said he was awakened by a village watchman, who told him that he heard a baby crying.

The baby, who was found floating near the seawall, was declared dead on arrival at the Guimbal District Hospital.

The father admitted that prior to the incident, he drank liquor. – Jennifer Rendon

P30 M giant clams seized in Cebu

At least 2,000 kilos of fossilized giant clams worth around P30 million were seized in raids led by Philippine Air Force (PAF) intelligen­ce personnel in Cordova, Cebu on Wednesday.

PAF spokesman Maj. Aristides Galang said the simultaneo­us raids were conducted in Barangays Day-as and Catarman.

Galang said George and Bening Oldama, Roweno Tajanlangi­t and two other persons who have yet to be identified were arrested.

He said the arrest is expected to impact on the activities of those behind the destructio­n of endangered marine species.
