HLG Best Film nominee in AACTA Awards
Hello, Love, Goodbye (HLG), the first team-up of Alden Richards and Kathryn Bernardo (photo) considered to be the all-time Filipino box-office hit, is up against eight other Asian films in the Best Film category of the 2019 AACTA Awards (Australian Academy Cinema Television Arts), presented by the Eureka International Group (EIG). HLG was directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.
According to a report by the Australian Film Institute (AFI), the other nominees are:
• Andhadhun (India) directed by Sriram Raghavan;
• Gully Boy (India) by Zoya Akhtar;
• Ne Zha (China) by Jiao Zi;
• Shadow (China) by Zhang Yimou;
• Super Deluxe (India) by Thiagarajan Kumararaja;
• The Wandering Earth (China) by Frant Gwo;
• We Are Little Zombies (Japan) by Makoto Nagahisa; and
• Parasite (South Korea) by Bong Joon-Ho, Best Picture Palme d’Or winner in the recent Cannes Filmfest and recently announced as a frontrunner in next year’s (92nd) Oscars.
The same report noted that over the past year, “the global reach of Asian film has continued to grow with an increasing number of highquality, creative storylines being recognized at international film festivals and at the local and international box-office.”
The AACTA Awards for Best Asian Film recognizes the exceptional caliber of films from the Asian region, from box-office hits and international film festivals favorites to a Palme d’Or winner and multiple Best International Feature Film Oscar entries.
