HLG was directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.

According to a report by the Australian Film Institute (AFI), the other nominees are:

• Andhadhun (India) directed by Sriram Raghavan;

• Gully Boy (India) by Zoya Akhtar;

• Ne Zha (China) by Jiao Zi;

• Shadow (China) by Zhang Yimou;

• Super Deluxe (India) by Thiagarajan Kumararaja;

• The Wandering Earth (China) by Frant Gwo;

• Parasite (South Korea) by Bong Joon-Ho, Best Picture Palme d’Or winner in the recent Cannes Filmfest and recently announced as a frontrunner in next year’s (92nd) Oscars.

The same report noted that over the past year, “the global reach of Asian film has continued to grow with an increasing number of highquality, creative storylines being recognized at international film festivals and at the local and international box-office.”

The AACTA Awards for Best Asian Film recognizes the exceptional caliber of films from the Asian region, from box-office hits and international film festivals favorites to a Palme d’Or winner and multiple Best International Feature Film Oscar entries.
