Atty. Sabio just exposed the Opposition plot

- BOBIT S. AVILA

We have focused on reporting about the sudden eruption of Taal Volcano Island last Sunday and the telling news we are getting from the front page news of our national dailies is that the effects of that eruption has turned the landscape into an ash grey color almost like a snow-covered mountain resort. But what is a bit distressing are the numerous cracks or fissures that have apparently surfaced in many areas like Batangas surrounding Taal Volcano, which the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) noted could lead into a bigger eruption.

In their latest bulletin, Phivolcs said cracks were seen in Barangays Sinisian, Mahabang Dahilig, Palanas, Sangalang, Poblacion, Lemery; Barangay Pansipit in Agoncillo, Barangays Poblacion 1, Poblacion 2, Poblacion 3, Poblacion 5 in Talisay; and Poblacion in San Nicolas. According to the United States Geological Survey a fissure is a fracture or crack in rocks along which there is a distinct separation.

If a fissure has been identified near the volcano, it would mean that the heated lava below the earth is acting up to explode into a new volcanic eruption. Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum explained that the intrusion of magma into the Taal edifice could produce fissures. We can only pray that this will not happen. Meanwhile alert level 4 is still up over Taal Volcano as of Wednesday morning, which means that hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days according to the reports of Phivolcs.

While the Taal eruption has taken our time in reporting it… I just got a bigger news that is of great importance to President Rodrigo Duterte and it seems that Atty. Jude Sabio… remember him who was with Atty. Larry Gadon went to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to accuse Pres. Duterte of committing crimes against humanity as a result of his war on drugs campaign. Without looking into the possibility that these accusations were clearly political in nature the ICC proceeded to look into this case.

However the bigger news came when Atty. Jude Sabio announced that he was withdrawing the communication he filed against Pres. Duterte at the ICC. Atty. Sabio said he does not want the communication to be used for political purposes. Well, I’ll be damned that my previous analysis on this case was that it was done with a political motive… and with the withdrawal of this case by no less than Atty. Sabio himself is our clearest proof that we analyzed this issue very clearly as being done by the political opposition! Shame on them! Honestly I have no idea why Atty. Sabio had a change of mind, but I’m sure we would get to know more about this about face in the days to come.

In Atty. Sabio’s affidavit, he said, “I fervently request that the legal matter pending with your office in relation to the war on drugs in the Philippines should be set aside and thrashed for being just a part of the political propaganda of [former] Sen. [Antonio] Trillanes IV and Sen. [Leila] de Lima and their Liberal Party-led opposition of which I do not wish to be part of.” Perhaps this report should not only be sent to the ICC but to the Republican Senators in the US Senate.

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said, “Slowly but surely, the destabilizers of the Duterte administration are being undressed. Their obnoxious smell like ashfall pollute the air.” Sec. Panelo also said that the Hague-based ICC tribunal must wake up from its “stupor if not ignorance.”

To give full support to the withdrawal of his case by Atty. Sabio, Atty. Larry Gadon accompanied him when he had his affidavit notarized in Quezon City. Atty. Gadon said, “Attorney Jude Sabio who filed a complaint and information before the International Criminal Court (ICC) against President Duterte has executed, signed and sworn an affidavit and statement withdrawing the ICC case, saying that he did not approve of what Trillanes and other LP personalities have resorted to besmirching the honor of the President.” Of course, I don’t expect that the ICC would suddenly end this episode; after all, there were supposedly other letters that they got from the members of the opposition.

However, the ICC must now consider the reality that they have been playing into the hands of the ugly Filipino politicians who used this international body in order to regain their political power. In my book, this is something that the representative of the Philippines in the United Nations (UN) should now report and condemn the ICC in the General Assembly for playing politics in the Philippines, which is far beyond their original jurisdiction. At this point, the General Assembly should sanction the ICC for only listening to one side of the story. I’m sure that the members of the General Assembly would never countenance the ICC’s political ploy in the Philippines. Email: vsbobita@gmail.com
