HD Spikers part ways with Barroga

- – John Bryan Ulanday

Cignal will have a new head coach at the resumption of Philippine Superliga play as longtime mentor Edgar Barroga was no longer re-signed.

Barroga, who first served as general manager of Cignal in 2016, took over the coaching chores in 2018.

Under his tutelage, Cignal became one of the league’s darkhorses and gave consensus contenders Petron and F2 Logistics a run for their money.

Last year, Barroga and the HD Spikers finished runner-up in the All-Filipino conference.

As for Barroga’s replacement, the Cignal management said they’re in no rush to find one since PSL play is on hold due to the pandemic.

“Cignal is forever grateful for your mentorship and everything you have done for our team. Wishing you the best of luck, Coach Edgar!” said the squad in a statement.

Barroga, for his part, was also thankful for his four-year stint with the HD Spikers despite the unfortunate break-up.
