Manila Mayor Isko Moreno will put 31 barangays on lockdown for 48 hours this weekend due to rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In Executive Order No. 31, Moreno said he is implementing an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the following barangays for disease surveillance and testing: Barangays 20, 41, 51, 56, 66, 96, 97, 101, 106, 116, 118, 120, 128 and 129 in District 1; Barangays 163, 173, 180, 185 and 215 in District 2; Barangays 275, 310, 343 and 380 in District 3; Barangays 649, 724, 766, 775 and 811 in District 5; and Barangays 836, 846 and 847 in District 6.

As of June 29, there were 147 COVID-19 positive cases in the 31 barangays, according to the Manila Health Department.

Frontliners and essential workers are exempted from the lockdown, while residents are not allowed to go out of their houses, Moreno said.

The lockdown will last from midnight of July 4 until 11:59 p.m. on July 5.

Commercial, industrial, retail, institutional and other activities not exempted under the quarantine guidelines are suspended during the lockdown, he added.

“Station commanders of police stations in the said barangays are hereby directed to employ and deploy officers and personnel in strategic locations and areas necessary for the effective implementation of the ECQ,” Moreno said in his order.

‘Calibrated’ quarantine

Several areas of Barangay BF Homes in Parañaque would be placed under “calibrated” lockdown for three days starting today, the city government said yesterday.

The lockdown would be “strictly enforced” until July 5 on Target Range 1; Clinicville Purok 1 and 2; J. Marquez Compound; Apple street, Chico street, Dalandan street and Calamansi street of Sampaloc Site 2 and Purok 3, Purok 3A, Aratiles 1 and 2 in Masville due to the high number of active coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in these areas, the city government said in a statement.

As of July 1, Barangay BF Homes recorded 56 active cases as well as 69 recoveries and nine deaths.
