Makati offers jobs to displaced teachers

The city government of Makati is offering job opportunities for displaced educators through the city’s mobile learning hub program.

In a statement yesterday, Mayor Abby Binay said she is looking for teachers, teacher aids and tutors to join the project, which she described as an “innovative educational platform aimed to ensure that the youth of Makati will continue learning despite the risks and restrictions imposed by the pandemic.”

These learning hubs would be deployed throughout the city when classes open to assist students and parents in coping with the blended learning scheme under the new normal, she said.

“Through this initiative, we will be able to augment the learning resources of our students and, at the same time, provide job opportunities for teachers and teaching assistants who have been displaced by the closure or downsizing of some private schools,” Binay said.

Each hub would be equipped with laptops and internet connections, as well as books and supplementary materials. Professional teachers, teacher assistants or youth volunteers would be on hand to provide tutorials.

“This project seeks to address inadequacies that may hamper the successful implementation of the blended learning approach. It is primarily intended for students who lack gadgets and other learning tools, and parents who have difficulties guiding and teaching their children using the self-directed learning modules,” Binay said.

The recruitment started on July 27 and would end on Aug. 15.
