Ian’s Oh, My Dad premieres today

-

Ian Veneracion dips his hands into comedy anew via his new family sitcom, Oh, My Dad ( OMD), today at 5 p. m. on TV5.

Ian rose to fame via the sitcom Joey & Son, where he played comic master Joey de Leon’s son.

Now, 40 years later, he returns to doing his “first love” after dabbling in matinee idol roles, action and dramatic star projects.

Based on the favorable reaction to the sitcom’s rushes, Ian still got that same old comic flair.

OMD was conceptualized by film producer lawyer Joji Alonso of Quantum Films for Brightlight Productions’ Albee Benitez, Pat P. Daza and Corinna Vistan, who immediately gave the project their nod.

Lawyer Joji commissioned Alpha Habon to be the project’s writer. Habon was the same writer behind Quantum Films’ film festival entry, Buy Now, Die Later.

Impressed by the writer’s potential, Joji has laid down plans for Habon’s movie directorial debut.

Handling OMD, meanwhile, is awardwinning director Jeffrey Jeturian, who used to meg the TV show, Legal Forum, Joji hosted and produced.

So, OMD serves as their reunion of sorts after 28 years.

Joji decided to produce OMD in hope of alleviating the plight of TV workers who were rendered jobless by COVID-19. She also wants to give a fun and entertaining sitcom to the viewers.

In OMD, Ian plays Matthew, a popular basketball player. He is named Most Valuable Player aside from being a much sought-after endorser and guest in showbiz gigs.

His good name is besmirched, however, when he gets involved in a scandal that forces him to leave for the US.

He comes home, still a bachelor, after several years with the hope that he would regain his fame.

By some unexpected twist, though, he discovers that he is a father to not one child…but three.

Joining Ian in the cast is Dimples Romana, who portrays his childhood friend. This is the actress’ first outing in a sitcom after the successful run of her drama series, Kadenang Ginto.

Playing the supposed children are Sue Ramirez, Louise Abuel and Adrian Lindayag. Also in the cast are Gloria Diaz and Ariel Ureta.

Catch Ian’s family-oriented sitcom, Oh, My Dad, on Saturdays.
