Comelec: 500,000 voter registration applications received
Nearly 500,000 applications for voter registration have been accepted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on the first three days of its ongoing nationwide voter registration in preparation for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections this December.
In a Viber message yesterday, acting Comelec spokesman Rex Laudiangco told reporters that their satellite offices have already received 487,628 new registrants composed of 302,040 from the 1517 age group; 157,925 aged 18 to 30 and 27,663 aged 31 and above.
Laudiangco said they have processed a total of 661,919 applications related to the barangay and SK polls as of July 8, of which 487,628 were new registrants, as mentioned earlier; 88,471 were for transfer from other cities/municipalities; 21,270 were for transfer within the same city/ municipality; 3,986 were for transfers with reactivation and 1,323 were for transfers with reactivation and correction.
The Comelec has also processed 4,712 applications for transfer with correction of records; 27,883 for reactivation; 6,303 for reaction with correction of records; 18,577 for change of names/correction of records and 58 for inclusion in the book of voters.
Eleven applications had also been processed for reinstatement of names in the voters’ list and 1,697 for transfer from overseas to local voting.
Laudiangco said that Comelec offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, including holidays, to accept applications related to the barangay and SK elections on Dec. 5.
The voter registration started last July 4 and will end on July 23.
