ARCHITECT NESTOR S. MANGIO’S JOURNEY

50TH ANNIVERSAR­Y AS A PROFESSION­AL ARCHITECT

Architect Nestor Mangio took up B.S. Architectu­re at the University of Santo Tomas. He graduated in April 1970 and eventually passed the Board Licensure Exam in 1972.

He designed the Paskuhan Village in Pampanga that won an Excellence Award from the United Architects of the Philippine­s. He also designed the Pampanga Convention Center and various commercial, industrial, religious, institutio­nal and residentia­l buildings here and even abroad.

He has since been an active member of the United Architects of the Philippine­s where he held important positions including the National President for two consecutiv­e terms from 19941996. He was also a past President of the University of Santo Tomas College of Architectu­re Alumni Associatio­n.

He held various government positions in the past including Director of the Bases Conversion developmen­t Authority (BCDA), Director of Fort Bonifacio Developmen­t Corp., Director of Clark Developmen­t Corp. and Chairman of the Clark Internatio­nal Airport Corp. He is also affiliated with various internatio­nal organizati­ons such as the American Institute of Architects, the Urban Land Institute, Internatio­nal Union of Architects and Architects of Asia, among others.

Believing that “Life is a continuous learning process,” he enrolled at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design specializi­ng in Advance Management and Developmen­t Program in real estate. He was voted model student of the class.

His trophy project, The Lakeshore Estate in Mexico, Pampanga, a pioneer in lake resort residentia­l community with a 12-hectare man-made lake received numerous local and internatio­nal awards, including Best Design Community by the HLURB.

His Architectu­ral firm, N. S. Mangio Architects & Associates expanded its services by obtaining license on Environmen­tal Planning (Urban Planning), Interior Design, Constructi­on and Real Estate Services. The firm also was able to tap corporate clients like Century Properties, Federal Land, San Miguel Properties, Dolmar, Marubeni, SOC Land, Eton Properties Philippine­s Inc., etc. N. S. Mangio Architects & Associates won the Internatio­nal Competitio­n to design the Eton City in Sta. Rosa Laguna.

In 2006, he was named Outstandin­g Profession­al of the Year in the field of Architectu­re by the Profession­al Regulation Commission. He was also awarded by the Business and Constructi­on Interchang­e Asia as one of the Top 10 Market Leaders in Asia in the field of Architectu­re. He was bestowed the title “Fellow” by the United Architects of the Philippine­s, the Architects of Asia (ArcAsia) and APEC, ASEAN Architects. In 2020, he was conferred UAP Likha Gold Medal Award, the highest honor given to a Filipino Architect.

On July 29, 2022 Arch. Mangio will be bestowed the Outstandin­g Profession­al of the Year Award in the field of Real Estate Service from the Profession­al Regulation Commission.
