VOLVO ACCELERATES SHIFT TO ELECTROMOBILITY TOWARDS 2030 AMBITION

-

Volvo Cars has a long and rich history of designing and engineering its cars around people. This approach has set it apart from its competitors. Over the past 95 years, Volvo has created a distinct personality that has made it one of the fastest-growing premium car brands in the world.

Volvo Cars redefines life on the road as it leads the way to a new era of sustainable mobility, and connected services.

• No one should be seriously injured or killed in a new Volvo car by 2020

• Around 50 percent of the cars Volvo produces and sells will be electric by 2025

These are but a few of the vision and mission of Volvo Cars. As years roll by, Volvo drives forward in achieving these ambitious yet clearly defined goals. Already, the company is ticking off items on its bucket list as it zones in on critical areas in electrification, direct consumer relationships, new vehicle technology, and creating a unique structure with open tech partnerships.

“Our heritage influences how we, at Volvo, think differently. Care for people and the world we live in has always been at the core of everything we do – leading to world-first automotive systems and innovations that save lives,” shared Volvo PH CEO and President Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla.

“The Volvo mindset is always to find new ways to make life easier, better, and safer for everyone, whether inside or outside our cars. From our designers and engineers to the sales and aftersales people in dealerships, the mission is to provide excellent service that gives people the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable, and safe way,” Atty. Arcilla adds.

As a testament to the progressive strides that Volvo is taking toward

“INDIVIDUAL MOBILITY NEEDS ARE EVOLVING, AND VOLVO’S DIRECTION TOWARD AUTOMOTIVE SOLUTIONS MUST OFFER A SAFE, ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND, YET PERSONAL AND COMFORTABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE. WITH OUR CURRENT RANGE OF BOOST HYBRIDS AND OUR GLOBAL LINE OF ELECTRIFIED VEHICLES, WE ARE OPTIMISTIC THAT THE FUTURE OF VOLVO IS SURELY ELECTRIFYING.” — CHRISTOPHER L. shaping the future of mobility, the company trained its focus on converging technologies in the areas of connectivity, propulsion, and safety.

These days, Volvo continues developing and enhancing new car ownership models and attractive services. They do this to bring Volvo closer to consumers and deliver exemplary service that surpasses expectations.

In terms of sustainability, Volvo’s efforts do not just stop at electrification. While Volvo was the first established carmaker to commit to all-out electrification in 2017, it also declared that it doesn’t stop there. Defined programs are in place to rethink vehicle, operation, and social sustainability.

As a leader in automotive safety, Volvo continues to make cars for people who care about others. In addition, access to partnerships with leading tech groups contributes to ingenious systems and swift tech transformations benefitting society.

THE JOURNEY TO SUSTAINABILITY

A considerable part of Volvo Cars’ mission is to be climate neutral by 2040. To get there, Volvo started its journey by committing to all-in electrification in 2017. By 2019, all Volvo models were all available with an electrified version.

In the Philippines, Volvo Cars is the first car company to launch plug-in hybrid models. The local distributor and dealer network also recently introduced the Boost Range. This new range includes the Volvo S90 luxury sedan and the Volvo XC60 and XC90 SUVs. These models feature a hybrid engine that brings electric power and smoothness to every drive. A 48V battery and an integrated starter generator support the combustion engine for reduced tailpipe emissions. There’s no need to plug it in and charge since every time the brake is pressed; the battery is fed with recovered braking energy.

Aside from electrification, Volvo Cars also embrace several strategies, including a circular economy, promoting ethical and responsible business and governance, and pursuing partnerships to help reduce direct and indirect emissions.

THE NEXT GENERATION

In the not-too-distant future, Volvo Cars sees a world where fully connected electric vehicles are the answer to personal mobility needs. It has developed the 360c Concept to bring Volvo’s vision of the future to life. A slew of other concept vehicles also act as a window to the future, showing Volvo’s next step in its journey.

“Individual mobility needs are evolving, and Volvo’s direction toward automotive solutions must offer a safe, environmentally sound, yet personal and comfortable travel experience. With our current range of boost hybrids and our global line of electrified vehicles, we are optimistic that the future of Volvo is surely electrifying,” enthuses Christopher L. Yu, Volvo Philippines’ Marketing Director.
