Fires hit Pasay, Muntinlupa, Manila

At least 71 families were left homeless in four fires that broke out in Pasay, Muntinlupa and Manila yesterday.

In Pasay, around 20 families were displaced after seven houses along Park Avenue Extension in Barangay 75 were destroyed by fire.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze broke out at around 6:31 a.m. and reached second alarm before it was put out at around 8 a.m.

An arson investigat­or at the Pasay fire station said there were no casualties in the fire, which destroyed P200,000 worth of property.

Firefighte­rs under city fire marshal Supt. Mariano Taguiam returned P116,000 in cash to the owner of a house that was among those affected by the fire.

In Muntinlupa, Mayor Ruffy Biazon ordered the delivery of relief goods to about 51 families or 185 individual­s displaced by a fire in Barangay Poblacion.

The fire broke out at around 6:01 a.m. and destroyed several houses before it was put out an hour later.

In Manila, fires broke out at an abandoned house and a shanty community.

The two-story house – apparently left unfinished and filled with cartons, tarpaulins and plastic products – along Mindanao street in Sampaloc caught fire at around 6 a.m.

The fire reached first alarm before it was doused at around 6:46 a.m., the BFP reported.

At past 1 p.m., a fire broke out in Baseco Compound, Port Area and reached third alarm before it was put out at around 3:19 p.m.

The BFP did not report any death or injury in the two incidents. No details were available on the number of families affected by the Port Area fire.
