REFILL FOR A BETTER TOMORROW

- LAI S. REYES

Sustainability reminds us that there are better ways of doing things to meet our present needs without compromising resources for future generations. And yes, we can all start with the simple choices we make at home.

While products that come in sachets remain affordable and accessible to most Filipinos, some have decided to remove themselves from the waste problem by practicing the four Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Refill.

In an effort to encourage more consumers to do good for the environment, Watsons recently launched its second Refill Station for Naturals by Watsons at Watsons “The Grand Store” at

The Block SM City North EDSA.

The refill stations are part of Watsons’ initiatives to encourage consumers to lead more sustainable lifestyles by offering them options to reuse plastic bottles instead of putting them to waste.

“More and more Filipinos are becoming aware of sustainability and practice sustainable living,” notes Patrick Yu, Watsons marketing manager. “According to Euromonitor International, 30 percent of the population right now, among the 100-plus million, are slowly taking action.”

At Watsons “The Grand Store,” customers can already opt to bring their own dry (clean) bottle for refill.

“Here, you can do refills of the Naturals by Watsons line of body wash and shampoo,” enthuses Yu. “Plus, you can get 40 percent savings when you opt for refills.”

For example, the SRP for Naturals by Watsons 490 ml Shampoo (Argan, Aloe Vera, Olive, and Coffee) is P260. Get a P100 discount if you bring your own bottle, or P50 off when you opt to buy the refill bottle with screw cap. The refill pack, on the other hand, is priced at P199.

Just present your empty bottle to the staff for refilling, personalize it, and pay at the counter.

If you cannot visit the Refill Stations at SM Megamall and SM The Block, Watsons also offers refill packs of its Naturals by Watsons products as well as hundreds of refill packs from Safeguard, Dove, Johnson’s, Colgate, Gillette, Babyflo, Sunsilk, Luxe Organix, Head & Shoulders, and many others. Refill packs are 40-percent cheaper than regular packs and they also produce 75 percent less plastic waste as compared to regular bottles. These refill packs are also available in all Watsons stores and online via the Watsons App.

As the biggest health and beauty store in the country, Watsons is committed and will continue its pursuit towards responsible and sustainable retailing.

Part of the company’s vision is to be sustainable — and make all the products they offer in the store sustainable — by 2030. “And we’re sharing this vision with our suppliers as well,” shares Yu.

“We hope our customers contribute to a more sustainable world by reusing the containers and hence, reducing plastic waste,” said Viki Encarnacion, PR and Sustainability director at Watsons.
