FROM YARD WASTE TO POWER

NUVALI KICKS OFF ITS ZERO YARD WASTE INITIATIVE

-

Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) hosted a kick off on March 1 in its eco-city Nuvali for a program that aims to go for Zero Yard Waste to Landfill, an initiative that the country is slowly adapting to reach an eco-friendly future.

This is a collaborative effort of ALI’s Nuvali Estates team and the AC Logistics business unit, Waste and Resources Management, Inc. (WARM).

With the abundant greens and landscaping across Ayala Land estates, around 2.6 million kg (approximately 1,800 truckloads) of yard or landscape waste are generated from common areas per year. Ten percent of this total is currently needed for landscape compost and mulch. The rest need a better destination, as opposed to ending in landfills.

The Zero Yard Waste program, led by Ayala Property Management Corporation, targets to keep 100% of ALI's bulky yard waste from landfills and dumpsites. Through this, yard waste like pruned twigs, branches, and fallen leaves will be diverted to WARM's facilities in Cavite. The generated power will be used by a laundry service facility servicing various hotels including Seda Nuvali.

While yard waste contributes only 1% of ALI’s total emissions, it makes up 12% to 20% of the company’s total waste. By utilizing yard waste as energy and compost, ALI moves closer to achieving its goal of zero yard waste to landfill.

Nuvali is Ayala Land’s eco-city in Laguna. It is an integrated selfsupporting eco-city and is home to a vast gathering of residential communities, business spaces including the LEED silver certified Nuvali One Evotech, schools, shopping centers, and Seda Hotel.

In Nuvali, business and lifestyle centers, recreational venues, and other living essentials thrive with over 51,986 trees, 86% of which are native species, and even more to be planted in the future. It has unlocked the potential for existing and future communities in the Southern Luzon corridor founded on harmony, diversity, and sustainability—making it the ideal location for investment and a prime residential, commercial, and recreational community.

Since its launch in 2008, it has been a leading growth center that supports sustainable ecological living, allowing residents to live side-by-side with nature.

With 49 estates across the country, Ayala Land hosts its diversified portfolio of complementary businesses including development of residential, office, commercial, and industrial properties for sale; commercial leasing through shopping centers, offices, hotels, resorts, factory buildings, warehouses, co-living, and co-working spaces; services such as construction, property management, retail energy supply and airlines; and strategic property-related investments. Ayala Land is celebrating 34 years of enhancing land and enriching lives for more people.
