Maynilad allots P178 B for wastewater program
West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is spending P178 billion for its wastewater management program in the next two decades.
In a statement yesterday, Maynilad said its wastewater program from 2023 to 2046 aims to expand sewer coverage and manage pollution loading into bodies of water.
The P178-billion spending plan will go toward the construction of 18 new sewage treatment plants (STP) in different areas within its concession.
This will also cover the installation of around 360 kilometers of new sewer lines that will catch and convey used water from households to STPs.
Maynilad will also upgrade 17 existing wastewater facilities to meet the revised effluent standards under Department Administrative Order 2021-19 of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, among other wastewaterrelated projects.
“Besides improving the distribution of drinking water supply, our investment program also includes the laying of essential infrastructure to collect and treat the wastewater generated by households so we can ensure environmental sustainability,” Maynilad CFO Randolph Estrellado said.
Maynilad is constructing new STPs and laying sewer conveyance systems in Valenzuela, Caloocan, Las Piñas, and Tunasan and Cupang in Muntinlupa.
Once operational, these new facilities combined will have the capacity to treat 419 million liters of wastewater per day, serving around 1.75 million residents.
The company’s long-term plan also includes the construction of a 140-million liters per day (MLD) capacity STP, and installation of sewer lines in Manila.
Since 2007, Maynilad has already spent P41.2 billion in capital expenditures for its wastewater management projects alone.
To date, the company is operating and maintaining 625 kilometers of sewer lines, and 22 wastewater treatment facilities that have a combined capacity to treat around 664 million liters of wastewater per day.
It was also able to expand sanitation service with the construction of new SPTs and purchase of new vacuum trucks for septic tank desludging activities.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base.
It is the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
