Angat Dam water level starts to dip

The water level in Angat Dam has started to drop.

As of 6 a.m. yesterday, the water level in the reservoir was monitored at 212.82 meters, which is nearing its normal high level of 212 meters.

The water level was .01 meters lower compared to its previous level of 213.83 meters.

The 2023 yearend target of 214 meters has been met and was even surpassed early this month.

Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage and System (MWSS) division manager Patrick Dizon said the Angat technical working group (TWG) has yet to meet on the updated projection for Angat Dam.

“Last month’s projection of the MWSS is 178 meters by end of June, considering a full allocation of 50 cubic meters per second from January to June 2024, which is almost the same lowest elevation we experienced last year,” Dizon told

He said the Angat TWG is managing water release from the dam to ensure enough supply during summer amid the threat of El Niño.

Dizon said water release is subject to change depending on the weather projection of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in the coming months.

The TWG is led by the National Water Resources Board, with representatives from the

MWSS, National Irrigation Authority and PAGASA as members.

Dizon reiterated that water release from Angat Dam and augmentation measures are enough to ensure an uninterrupted supply in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

Angat Dam supplies more than 90 percent of Metro Manila’s potable water needs. It also provides for the irrigation of 25,000 hectares of rice fields in Bulacan and parts of Pampanga. –
