Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte yesterday led the launch of the PalengQR Ph Plus program that will enable cashless transactions at the Project 4 public market.

The initiative, developed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), “aims to build the digital payments ecosystem in the country by promoting cashless payments in public markets and local transportation, particularly tricycles.”

The BSP and the DILG partnered with local government units and financial service providers to implement the program.

Belmonte said cashless options are now available in eight public markets in the city.

“It has been the goal of our local government to promote the digitization and automation of our services,” she said.

“That is why almost 100 percent of the processes and services in our city are now digital or online,” she added.

Under her term, the city government launched the QC e-services website, which allows residents to transact and avail themselves of various local government services online.

Belmonte also initiated various digitization and automation programs, which aim to improve services and promote ease of doing business in the city.

The local government partnered with GCash for the implementation of the Paleng-QR Ph program at the Project 4 public market.

With the program, market vendors may now receive cashless payments via QR codes displayed on their stalls.

“Together with our public sector partners, we are moving ever closer to our shared goal of building an inclusive and secure digital financial ecosystem in the country,” GCash said following the launch.
