The Queendom: LIVE concert is now a TV musical special

- By JERRY DONATO

From the small screen, Thea Astley, Rita Daniela, Mariane Osabel, Hannah Precillas, Julie Anne San Jose, and Jessica Villarubin successfully brought their Queendom segment in GMA 7’s All-Out Sundays to the stage in the latter part of 2023. Their first-ever concert, titled Queendom: LIVE, did prove their gift to engage the crowd through songs and grit to hold their own in solo and group performances.

Fans and music enthusiasts left the venue happy and content. Surely, they’re also anticipating a part two this year.

“We hear the clamor of fans, especially those who missed the Dec. 2 concert, for a repeat of Queendom: LIVE,” said senior vice president and head of GMA Integrated News, Regional TV, and Synergy Oliver Victor Amoroso in an e-mail interview with The STAR. “We are looking at opportunities to bring the queens (Julie Anne, Rita, Jessica, Mariane, Hannah, and Thea) together again outside of their regular program, All-Out Sundays.”

“For now, those who missed their first concert can look forward to the airing of Queendom Live: The TV Special on Jan. 26 at 9:35 p.m. on GMA. We thank the fans for their overwhelming and continued support,” added he.

Yes, the people behind Queendom: LIVE are presenting it as a weekend TV special — from being a variety show segment and a live musical performance to its recent format.

When asked if his team has plans to bring the Kapuso divasqueens’ Queendom: LIVE to the regions and abroad, Oliver answered, “It is always part of the plan to bring the queens closer to their fans, especially that at least three of them are from outside Metro Manila. Jessica Villarubin is from Cebu, Hannah Precillas is from Bohol, and Mariane Osabel is from Iligan. It will be an honor for us to bring the Queendom: LIVE energy and excitement to the regions or overseas, and showcase their amazing talent on the world stage.” By the way, Queendom: LIVE was made possible through GMA Synergy and GMA Entertainment.

Aside from Queendom: LIVE, Synergy has musical presentation surprises “up its sleeve” this new year.

According to Oliver, they are “finalizing the concepts and venues for four major concerts,” which will be mounted either here or abroad.

“Regional TV, in coordination with Synergy, will also be having more events across the country, bringing our top-rating programs and prime artists closer to our regional viewers,” shared he. “We have started the year with GMA participating in major festivals (such as) Ati-Atihan Festival in Kalibo, Aklan; Sinulog sa Kabankalan in Negros Occidental; Coco Festival in San Pablo City, Laguna; Kaisa Festival in Tarlac City; Sinulog Festival in Cebu; Lipa City Fiesta in Batangas; Dinagsa Festival in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental; and Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo City.”

They will also conduct the GMA Masterclass Series in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao which focuses on Journalism and TV production, added he.

NCAA and Synergy are also preparing for the broadcast of Season 99’s Juniors Basketball Finals, Women’s Volleyball Tournament, and Cheerleading Competition, and NCAA centennial season, replete with exciting on-ground and on-air initiatives, said Oliver. What is the core role GMA Synergy plays as far as Kapuso talents are concerned?

“It provides an additional platform to showcase GMA’s talents further, especially our homegrown talents like our Queendom members,” said Oliver. “We are proud of the initiatives we have undertaken, including the New York Festivals TV and Film Awards Silver medalist Limitless: A Musical Trilogy, the Alden’s Reality virtual reality concert, the JulieVerse concert, and the Queendom: LIVE concert.”

“Together with Sparkle-GMA Artist Center, we are also on the lookout for new talents, whether in entertainment or sports. Also, GMA, through Synergy, has spared no effort in investing in new equipment, training the best personnel, and utilizing vast resources to bring the sports experience to every corner of the nation,” he said.

“Synergy’s role goes beyond broadcasting the action-packed NCAA games. We aim to shine a spotlight on the true stars of the league, the Filipino studentathletes.”
