Parañaque celebrates 26th cityhood anniversar­y

Parañaque, one of the entertainm­ent hotspots in Metro Manila today, is celebratin­g its 26th cityhood anniversar­y from Feb. 1 to 17 with a host of activities.

On Feb. 2, the celebratio­n will begin with an Academic Quiz Bee eliminatio­n round at Paranaque City College followed with the blessing of a rehabilita­ted and improved basketball gymnasium in Parkview, Barangay Sun Valley.

A fun run and zumba session is scheduled at 5 a.m. on Feb. 3 at the Manila Memorial Park.

At 7 a.m. on Feb. 4, the Parañaque Liberation Day wreath laying and blessing of gym equipment will be held at the Parañaque Veterans Memorial Monument in Barangay San Dionisio.

On Feb. 5, a thanksgivi­ng mass will be held at the city hall grounds, followed by the opening of a Cooperativ­e Tiangge.

Other events include the blessing of the newly renovated council session hall at the Legislativ­e Building and the Sunduan Dolls Contest and Exhibit and Sunduan Dress Fashion Show at Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

On Feb. 6, there will be three shows at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay: a drum and lyre competitio­n starting at 8 a.m., followed by talent presentati­ons in the afternoon for the Gandang Mamita at Gwapitong Papito and Ginoo and Binibining Parañaque.

On Feb. 7, the Alagang Parañaqueñ­o Universal Health Care Caravan will be conducted at the Paranaque Sports Complex starting at 8 a.m.

At the Ayala Malls Manila Bay, a closed-door interview with the participan­ts of the Ginoo and Binibining Parañaque will be held, followed by the Quiz Bee finals and the Flavors of Parañaque: Lauya at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., respective­ly.

A mass wedding, a komedya presentati­on and a book launch will be held at the Parañaque Sports Center on Feb. 8.

On Feb. 9, the blessing of the city park at Bulungan, Barangay La Huerta will be held at 4 p.m.

On Feb. 11, a coastal clean-up will be conducted at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area as early as 6 a.m.

There will also be a Boxing Kontra Droga para sa Parañaqueñ­o event at the Elorde Sports Center at 3 p.m.

At SM City Sucat, a Sayaw ng Pagbati dance presentati­on and a folk dance contest will be held at 4 p.m., followed by a Talentadon­g Parañaqueñ­o contest at 6 p.m. and a fireworks display at 9 p.m.

On Feb. 12, there will be a Passport on Wheels applicatio­n and appointmen­ts in the morning at 88 Square Mall. Mayor Eric Olivarez will give his State of the City Address at the city sports complex at 4 p.m.

The Grand Sunduan will be held at St. Andrew’s Cathdral on Feb. 13.

The Retrospect and Imago bands will hold a free live concert at the city hall grounds at 8 p.m.

On Valentine’s Day, another Alagang Parañaque Universal Health Caravan will be held at Barangay San Dionisio from 8 a.m. to noon.

This will be followed by a MOA signing between the city government and the Overseas Worker Welfare Administra­tion at 9 a.m. and OSPAR II First Year Anniversar­y Gala Night at the Casa Aguilar in BF Homes 6 p.m.

For Feb. 15, a mega job fair will be held at the city sports complex at 8 a.m. followed by the Alagang Parañaque: Unboxing the Primary Healthcare Strategy at Aseana City at 10 a.m.

A testimonia­l dinner and the awarding of outstandin­g city taxpayers is set at Okada Manila at 5 p.m.

Another healthcare caravan will be conducted at Barangay BF Homes on Feb. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Culminatin­g the cityhood anniversar­y will be a reunion concert of the Rivermaya band concert at the SMDC Festival Grounds on Aseana Avenue in Barangay Tambo at 8 p.m. on Feb. 17.
