Davao City warm at 34.1˚Celsius

The highest temperatur­e so far this year was recorded in Davao City yesterday with 34.1 degrees Celsius, according to the Philippine Atmospheri­c, Geophysica­l and Astronomic­al Services Administra­tion.

PAGASA weather forecaster Glaiza Escullar said warm temperatur­es are expected with the break of the northeast monsoon or amihan.

“We can expect warmer weather amid the temporary break of the northeast monsoon as it is only being felt in Northern Luzon,” Escullar said.

Aside from Davao City, higher temperatur­es were recorded in Zamboanga City at 33.7 degrees Celsius; Science Garden in Quezon City, 33.3; Ninoy Aquino Internatio­nal Airport in Pasay, 32.9; Dipolog City, 32.6; Legazpi in Albay, 30.6; Mactan, Cebu, 30.4, and Calapan in Oriental Mindoro at 30.4 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the water level at Angat Dam in Bulacan as well as in eight other dams in Luzon continue to decline amid the El Niño phenomenon.

As of 6 a.m. yesterday, Angat’s water elevation was 210.47 meters or down by 0.12 from the previous 210.59 meters. Ipo Dam in Bulacan also declined by 0.03 meters, reaching 99.60 from 99.63 meters.

La Mesa Dam in Quezon City was at 78.28 meters yesterday, or 0.13 below from its previous level of 78.41 meters.

Water at Ambuklao Dam in Benguet was 751.06 meters yesterday, or down by .06 from its previous day’s level of 751.12 meters.

Binga Dam in Benguet was down to 573.27 meters from 573.28 the other day.

San Roque Dam in Pangasinan dropped to 250.23 from 250.56 meters.

Other dams that have been experienci­ng a decline in their water elevation were Pantabanga­n in Nueva Ecija, Magat in Isabela and Caliraya in Laguna.

Earlier, PAGASA warned that a strong El Niño could persist until this month.

It said the drought could last until May.
