The Philippine Postal Corp. welcomed the Lunar New Year with the launching of commemorative Wood Dragon stamps.

The stamps were launched last Saturday during the Lunar New Year celebration.

PhlPost will be selling limited copies of the two colorful “Year of the Dragon” stamp designs with denominations of P16 and P45, respectively.

It also released 2,500 pieces of the limited collector’s item souvenir sheets at P200 each and 800 copies of first day cover envelopes.

The new year celebration is about symbolically doing away with the old of the previous year, and ushering in health, good fortune, prosperity and happiness for the coming lunar year.

The Wood Dragon stamp launch was held by the Philippine Philatelic Federation Inc., in partnership with PhlPost and Lucky Chinatown Mall.

Philippine Philatelic Federation president Rey Ong, PhlPost philately and museum division head Arlene Labao, Lucky Chinatown Mall general manager Norico Mizoguchi and Philatelic expert Tiong Tak Ngo led the launch ceremony and the opening of the Zodiac Stamp and Painting Exhibit at the ground floor of Lucky Chinatown Mall.

Postmaster General Luis Carlos said the exhibit will allow people “to witness and appreciate the colorful Chinese zodiac stamps released by PhlPost and kept by well-known collectors through the years.”

The exhibit will showcase collections of zodiac stamps by collectors Ngo, Alfredo Roxas and Reynaldo Ong de Jesus and the Chinese paintings and calligraphy of professor Chua Hu Hua.

The exhibit is open to the public until Feb. 29.
