Maynilad pouring in P2.7 B for water loss reduction plan

Maynilad Water Services Inc. will spend P2.7 billion until 2027 to reduce water losses by replacing its aging pipe network and stifling the rampant illegal connections in Manila.

The company said the amount is part of its non-revenue water management (NRW) program in the City of Manila. Of the total budget, P2.4 billion would go to pipe replacement projects while P151 million would be used for leak repairs.

The West Zone concessionaire said the remaining P190 million would be spent for network diagnostics and leak detection, among other activities.

“It is in Manila City where the oldest section of the pipe network that we inherited from the government is located. To reduce water losses in this area, we have already replaced 701 kilometers of old pipes since 2007,” Maynilad COO Randolph Estrellado said.

He said the 701-kilometer pipe replacement in Manila was made with the help of the local government of City of Manila, which issued the necessary permits and managed the traffic for pipe replacement and leak repair projects.

Maynilad, the largest private water concessionaire in the country in terms of customer base, is undertaking a P16.5billion NRW Management Program to reduce water losses in the entire West Zone from 2023 to 2027.

It is the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite province.
