ANTHONY JENNINGS THANKFUL TO VIEWERS FOR SUPPORTING LOVE TEAM WITH MARIS RACAL
Despite having respective relationships in real life, Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings are able to make viewers feel kilig with their unexpected but undeniable chemistry as Irene and Snoop (also known as SnoRene) in ABS-CBN’s “Can’t Buy Me Love.”
Maris’ beau is former Rivermaya frontman Rico Blanco, while Anthony is in a five-year relationship with a non-showbiz partner.
“Maris has been in the industry for quite a while. I, on the other hand, am showing my real self to the people. Maris is in a relationship with Rico. We respect each other’s relationship and there’s no problem with that,” said Anthony on how they are able to maintain their love team in the primetime series during the recent presscon.
“It worked and to think, people already knew (about our respective relationships). They knew what’s real and not real,” he added.
With that, Anthony is thankful for the love and support that the viewers are giving their characters in the series.
“Actually, mas nakakakilig nga eh, ‘di ba na parang natural lang. We just talk and see each other during tapings. ‘How are you?’ At least ‘pag ganun, may pinag-uusapan kami palagi. Hindi siya nauubos,” Anthony continued, praising Maris’ acting.
On how a love team should be defined in the industry, Anthony said it depends on what works for each character. “For us, our characters fit our (real-life) personalities,” he explained.
“Maybe, feeling ko mas OK because it’s real. You show (who you are) without walls or something na ganito kami, ganun. It’s a good feeling because you still have the freedom sa mga bagay na gusto mo. Nakakalabas pa rin kami. And it worked and hindi mabigat sa pakiramdam.”
The Star Magic artist also cited that their style of humor is the same.
“Nakakatuwa lang na because Maris is really good and charming. Sobrang sarap niya kaeksena and madali siyang kabatuhan ng lines,” he said.
He likewise admitted that sometimes he gets pressured while doing a scene with Maris but they make sure to help each other.
“Bigayan lang naman. I’m very thankful that I was paired with her as my onscreen partner in ‘Can’t Buy Me Love.’”
Anthony also shared that Rico has already visited the set of the series and that they would treat each other as buddies. “I’m happy that I get to talk to him. We met in a ball (ABS-CBN ball)… Support naman. Natutuwa nga sila. Natatawa silang dalawa, my girlfriend and Rico. Natutuwa din siya sa mga scenes namin ni Maris.”
Anthony further mentioned how supportive his partner is of his showbiz career. They earlier met when they both auditioned for a commercial gig.
“She supports me like with my needs. Sometimes, she’s the one who picks the outfit that I would wear,” he said of his girlfriend.
He added that proper communication is the key to their relationship. “This job is tough. You are dealing with people, you have (onscreen) partners. But it’s up to you on how to explain it to her as long as maayos ka lang. You’re not doing anything wrong and wala ka namang tinatapakan na ibang tao,” he maintained.
Even his girl would get kilig over SnoRene’s scenes in the series.
“She (girlfriend) would also watch our scenes. Actually, sometimes we would watch the episodes together,” he said, adding that he is just happy for the support that he received from his sweetheart.
Meanwhile, asked for his reaction about some people saying that SnoRene is outshining the DonBelle (Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano) love team in the series, Anthony said that they don’t have that kind of feeling on set and that they are all friends.
“For me, I don’t get to read all (those comments). Just focus on your craft and in what you do. I’ve heard some things, may mga nagsasabi sa aking ganun. I told Dons, ‘Don’t mind them, ‘tol.’ Because we are really friends.”
“Parang wala namang ganun talaga sa amin eh, like yun casual. Siguro sila nagsasabi nun but to us, wala. We love each other on set. So wala kaming ganyan na pakiramdam na mabigat, wala kaming ganun,” he added.
Anthony pointed out how well they all get along on set with Donny and Belle. He said, “Sobrang sarap katrabaho ni Dons. Sometimes, I go home to his house and have dinner with them. I’m grateful that I get to work with them. Kasi ang ganda ng set, community namin. All of us are friends. I have nothing to say about them but sobrang love ko si Donny.”
