MGreen unit breaks ground for Nueva Ecija solar plant

Greentech Solar Energy Inc. (GSEI), a subsidiary of MGreen Renewable Energy Inc., broke ground on an 18.75-megawatt alternatin­g current (MWac) solar power plant project in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija.

The project is part of the company’s plan on securing a sustainabl­e future by building 1,500 megawatts of renewable projects by 2030.

“As part of One Meralco’s long-term sustainabi­lity agenda and as we heed to the call of the government for the attainment of 35 percent renewable energy mix by 2030, we will ensure, together with our dedicated partners, to efficientl­y serve the country’s growing power needs with cleaner energy in cost-competitiv­e manner,” Government Relations and Industry Affairs first vice president Philip Dasalla said.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has plans on shifting to a 35 percent and 50 percent share of renewable energy in the power generation mix by 2030 and 2040, respective­ly.

Among DOE’s eligible renewable energy under its portfolio standards is solar.

GSEI is scheduled to begin commercial operations in the first quarter of 2025.

In addition, GSEI is among the winning bidders in DOE’s second round of Green Energy Auction Program.

MGreen is the renewable energy arm of MGen.

Present at the groundbrea­king were representa­tives from GSEI’s Engineerin­g, Procuremen­t, and Constructi­on contractor SUMEC Complete Equipment and Engineerin­g Co. Ltd. led by Jason Wang and from the local government unit including Nueva Ecija’s 3rd District Rep. Rosanna Vergara, Bongabon Mayor Ricardo Padilla, vice mayor Christian Binuya and Pesa barangay captain Angelito Dela Cruz.
