So far, so good for HD Spikers

Games Tuesday (PhilSports Arena) 4 p.m. – Capital1 Solar vs SGA 6 p.m. – Farm Fresh vs Akari

Cignal and Ces Molina flexed their muscles to overpower Galeries Tower, 25-14, 25-16, 2517, and stay unbeaten in two starts in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena.

Molina, last year’s Invitational Conference MVP, terrified the Highrisers and dropped a 14-point performance as the HD Spikers posted win No. 2.

But the veteran skipper talked more on how her teammates responded than about her solid effort.

“Nakaka-proud teammates ko, kahit sino ipasok nagkocontribute, nagpe-perform. I’m happy naka straight set kami today (yesterday),” said Molina.

In another game, Brooke Van Sickle went on arampage as she powered Petro Gazz to a 25-16, 25-23, 25-21 win over PLDT, to improve to 2-1.

Van Sickle unleashed a 23-point barrage, including 21 on spikes, as the Angels swooped down on the High Speed Hitters and sent the latter to a first loss after two wins in a row.

Molina also loved the chemistry of the team following the arrival of their new teammates Dawn Macandili-Catindig and Jovelyn Fernandez.

“I think nakukuha na namin tamang chemistry and jelling especially kasama ang bagong players namin,” she said.

While Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos was impressed, he said there is still more work to be done.

“Masarap pakiramdam, syempre panalo. Pero mas kailangan magtrabaho pa after this,” said Delos Santos.

Vanessa Gandler, named Player of the Week by the sports scribes covering the league, scattered seven while battle-scarred Jovelyn Gonzaga had six points despite both playing just two sets.

Also making her presence felt was Macandili-Catindig, who had 14 digs and six receptions.
