CDA at 34: Nurturing cooperative growth and empowerment

- By C.B. MARDERS

In the realm of cooperative development and empowerment in the Philippines, the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) stands as a beacon of collaborative efforts. Celebrating its 34th anniversary with a sense of pride and achievement, the CDA rallies around its theme: Cultivating employee empowerment towards excellence. Established on March 10, 1990, through Republic Act No. 6939, and strengthened by Republic Act 11364, also known as the CDA Charter of 2019, CDA has played a significant role in fostering the growth and sustainability of cooperatives nationwide.

For over three decades, CDA has been at the forefront of empowering communities through cooperation. It has facilitated the formation and registration of thousands of cooperatives, spanning various sectors such as agriculture, consumers, education, finance, human services, and public utilities. These cooperatives have become engines of growth, uplifting the lives of their members and contributing to the development of their communities.

BOOSTING COOPERATIVES

This year, CDA has been tasked with implementing the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen agricultural cooperatives. President Marcos Jr. has directed CDA to identify the resources and strategies necessary to bolster agricultural cooperatives and enhance their management skills. The goal is to provide tangible results that improve the management, organization, administration, and operations of these cooperatives. In response, CDA established an agricultural cooperative ecosystem framework, strategically aiming to cultivate a resilient and sustainable environment for agricultural cooperatives. This initiative aims to significantly enhance their growth and empower them to play a crucial role in ensuring food security. On its 34th anniversary, the CDA embraces the challenge set forth by the President to strengthen agricultural cooperatives. The CDA also extends this goal to everyone. Together, let us empower our cooperatives, nurture their growth, and pave the way for a brighter, more sustainable future. Here’s to unity, progress, and the cooperative spirit!
