Today, the 96th Academy Awards will be livestreamed exclusively on Disney+ Philippines.

This year, it’s worth noting that half of the 20 nominated actors are getting their first stab at an Oscar.

Emily Blunt is nominated for the first time via the Best Supporting Actress category for her portrayal of Kitty Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s 2023 biopic “Oppenheimer.” Mainly known for her roles on TV and theater, Danielle Brooks also received her first Academy Award nod for her portrayal of Sofia in the film adaptation of the Broadway production, “The Color Purple.”

Also a first-time nominee at the Oscars, under the Best Supporting Actor category, is Sterling K. Brown for the satire “American Fiction.” Emmywinning Colman Domingo, on the other hand, is nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of Bayard Rustin, an activist who was forced into the background because he was gay, in the film “Rustin.” Should he win, he’ll be the first openly gay Black man to take home an acting Oscar.

America Ferrera is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Gloria in “Barbie,” while Lily Gladstone becomes the first Native American actress to receive an Oscar nomination for starring in “Killers of the Flower Moon” as Mollie Kyle.

German actress Sandra Hüller’s role in “Anatomy of a Fall” as Sandra Voyter earned her a Best Actress nod. Irish actor Cillian Murphy, who has won the Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Screen Actors Guild Best Actor awards this year for portraying the title role in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” is seen as a frontrunner for the Oscars’ Best Actor.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph, in her role as boarding school cook Mary Lamb in “The Holdovers,” is nominated in the supporting actress category. She has earlier received success at the BAFTA, Golden Globes, Indie Spirit, Critics’ Choice, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Jeffrey Wright, star of “American Fiction,” is Best Actor nominee for playing English literature professor and author Monk, who’s frustrated with the publishing industry’s expectations of Black authors.
