PNP exec uses sex videos for blackmail

- By EMMANUEL TUPAS

A police colonel is facing criminal cases after he allegedly documented his sexual encounters with a woman with whom he had an illicit affair for several years and later used the videos to blackmail the victim when she wanted to end their relationship.

One of the videos was sent to the woman’s husband and daughter.

The 52-year-old police official was charged with psychological abuse under Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Law, grave coercion, intriguing against honor and unjust vexation before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office.

He was also charged with violating provisions of RA 9995, or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act; RA 11313, the Safe Spaces Law; RA 10173, also known as the Data Privacy Act, and RA 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Law.

He was relieved from his post in the Philippine National Police and is on floating status. His name was also not included in the list of key officials in the PNP as of this month.

The cases are currently undergoing preliminary investigation before the office of the city prosecutor.

Taking advantage

In her complaint, the woman said she first met the official on Facebook in December 2020 when the latter sent a friend request that she accepted.

The woman admitted she was suffering from depression during that period due to a personal problem, a situation that the official apparently took advantage of as he gained her trust.

The two later met at the parking lot of a mall where the woman gave the nameplate the official ordered for his uniform. The woman said the official kissed her without her consent but she was not able to react. They later had lunch and talked about her moneylending business.

On their second meeting, the woman said they were supposed to meet in a restaurant but the official instead brought her to a hotel. As she was still dealing with her personal problems, she was not able to resist and they had sex.

Unknown to the woman, the official recorded their sexual encounter using his cell phone. She said she was irked when she found out as he showed her the video.

The woman tried to grab the official’s cell phone to delete the video but the latter refused and told he would be the one to erase it.

She said she endured the ordeal of having the official record each time they had sex.

Threats start

According to the woman, the threats began in 2021 as the official warned he would not hesitate to send the videos of their explicit encounters to her husband if she attempted to break up with him.

The following year, she talked with the official and pleaded for them to end their relationship but he refused. Fearing what might happen, she continued with their affair and pretended she was happy.

The woman made another appeal in January 2023 to the official for him to delete their sex videos, which he said he would do.

Demand for money

They later met in August last year when the official borrowed money, which he returned after two months with interest.

In January this year, the official continued to borrow money on several occasions. However, every time the woman would ask for payment, he asked for more cash.

When the victim confronted him and told him she would have filed a complaint before their barangay if he was not a police officer, the latter laughed it off and warned he would just show their sex videos.

In the same month, a person claiming to be the official’s wife posted on Facebook that she has copies of their sex videos. The same social media account sent one of the videos to the victim’s daughter, who was then at school.

The following day, the same video was sent to her husband.

The woman said the scandal almost destroyed her family, but she and her husband stayed together and decided to file charges against the police official.
