The message conveyed from infighting among political families

“…If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand…” – Mark 3:24-25

-

The conflict between half-brothers incumbent Senator JV Ejercito and former Senator Jinggoy Estrada, along with the clash between full-blooded siblings incumbent Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay and former Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay, reveal a common experience – political infighting within families has been going on for quite a long time in the country.

In my home province Tarlac, the struggle between Jose ‘Peping' Cojuangco, Jr. and Eduardo ‘Boss Danding' Cojuangco, Jr., both of whom previously served as representative for Tarlac’s first congressional district, has become an iconic symbol of family strife ignited by politics.

What is the message here? There are no relatives when politics is at play. Many politicians will always be solely preoccupied by their political triumphs; if friends, family, or associates stand in the way of their dream, they will not even think twice to sideline (or completely eliminate) such “obstacles.”

A sign the end is near?

I am not ashamed to say over and over again, such political wrangling exhibits one of the signs Jesus, our God and Savior who is God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, gave to signal the end of the world.

According to Matthew 24, Luke 21, and Mark 13, Jesus indicated the end of times and His second coming would be heralded by, among others, the war or fighting among kingdoms against kingdoms, nations against nations, and peoples against peoples. To those studying the Bible, family fights over politics forms a part of this prophecy.

As a consequence, it is important for those who wish to avoid God's wrath (which will be shown through the

burning of the skies, sun, moon, stars, and everything in this world that does not accept and believe in Jesus) to take heed of the signs and act accordingly to what the Bible says.

“Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad”

Whenever compelled to mediate family conflicts over poli$cs, the ma er can be traced to the old quote, “Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad.” Those who are mad are a lot easier to destroy as they are deprived of reason. Both biblical and secular accounts of world history show many individuals who wielded great power o en diminished in influence a er their intelligence, what they used to a ain power in the first place, was taken away.

This is what will happen to poli$cians in the Philippines whom the gods wish to see out of office.

Is it not madness and lack of reason the basis for family members to get into poli$cal conflicts? Such conflicts subsequently makes these poli$cians easy targets for other enemies, which, in that case, hopefully they con$nue figh$ng.
