Silay City farmer‐bene iciaries urge DAR to hasten land distribution
A group of farmerbeneficiaries is asking Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary, Atty. John Castriciones, to hasten the distribution of a landholding in Silay City which has been decided in their favor three years ago.
Task Force Kasanag (TFK) National commander John Chiong said he will write to Castriciones in view of the complaint of Dominador Tumbale, chairman of the Samahan ng Maralitang Manggagawa ng Hacienda Panaogao in Silay City, for the awarding of the landholdings under the CARP which was decided in favor of the farmer beneficiaries.
Tumbale, who sought the help of TFK, said that until now the property which is about 73.1158 hectares has yet to be distributed to the 13 beneficiaries including himself.
Celso AgroIndustrial Corporation which contested the distribution of the landholding filed an appeal but was dismissed, documents showed.
Tumbale said be sought the help of TFK after he was reportedly “visited” by personnel from the Regional Trial Court accompanied by uniformed men asking them to vacate the property.
Chiong said land conflict especially those concerning the properties under the CARP are under DAR’s jurisdiction as he questioned the court personnel action.
He said he accompanied Tumbale to the DAR office in Silay City to file complaints and follow up on the land distribution but they were surprised to see not a single personnel was around.
Chiong said he will also bring the said concern to the DAR higher ups.
D o c um e n t s presented by Tumbale also showed an order issued by Castriciones dated February 3, 2020 affirming the decision of the DAR region then under Alexis Arsenal three years ago awarding the property to Tumbale and his group.
TFK, a civil society organization, Chiong said is also a partner of the Anti Red Tape Authority./
The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) has sent a total of 50 cops to help the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) enforce strict enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) measures to stem the spread of coronavirus disease 2019, or Covid-19, there.
Maj. Miguel Andeza, NOPPO chief of the Provincial Operation Management Unit, said that a send-off ceremony was held on June 26 at Camp Francisco Fernandez in Agan-an, Sibulan town for the second batch of 25 police personnel.
He said the first batch of 25 policemen was sent early last week.
All are male police officers coming from the NOPPO’s 1st and 2nd companies of the Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), he added.
Andeza reassured that even with the deployment of the augmentation forces to Cebu City, police activities in Dumaguete City concerning peacekeeping and anticriminality operations will not be hampered. After all, the Provincial Mobile Force companies are “support units” and not assigned to police stations in the towns and cities, he said.
The duration of the stay of the NOPPO personnel in Cebu City is indefinite, depending on the Covid- 19 situation there, he added.
Andeza also assured the public in Dumaguete that the assigned policemen, once they return, will be subjected to health protocols such as the mandatory 14- day quarantine.
