PCG southern Visayas area gets new commander
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has appointed a new commander in the southern Visayas district which covers islands of Negros and Siquijor.
PCG Commodore Tito Alvin Garcia Andal formally took over the post Monday morning during a turnover ceremony held at the PCG-Negros
Occidental headquarters in Bacolod City’s Barangay Banago.
Andal, a native of Lipa City in Batangas, is an alumnus of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) BantayLaya Class of 1994. He also previously served as an officer in the Philippine
Navy, before eventually joining the PCG, where he became naval aviator.
In a press conference following the turnover ceremony, Andal said he originally became the southern Visayas commander last May 15.
Andal said his current task is to oversee the PCG’s efforts in implementing the National Inter-Agency Task Force’s regulations against the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19, as well as providing security to the various ports and maritime facilities in Negros and Siquijor./
