Distance learning is any form of remote education where the students are not physically present for the lesson (www.viewsonic.com). Moreover, according to Margaret Rouse (2015) distance learning is sometimes called as e-learning or otherwise known as a formalized teaching and learning system specifically designed to be carried out remotely by using electronic communication.

Distance learning can sometimes be less expensive and is not constrained by geographic considerations. It offers opportunities in situations where traditional education has an operational difficulty. Students with problems on scheduling or distance can benefit from it. It is also a big help for working students because distance education can be more flexible in terms of time and can be delivered virtually anytime and anywhere.

Some schools in the Philippines are also into e-learning especially in the colleges and universities in order to ensure the safety of the students and classes during the period of difficulties like this time of pandemic.

If distance learning will be implemented in our local schools, aside from the fact that we are in our respective homes and safe, it is very malleable because students can choose where, when and how they are going to study.

By selecting the time and place and medium for their education, it is also easy for them to access if they have an internet connection and gadgets like smartphones, laptops or computer. It would be easy for the teachers also to monitor and evaluate their performance and also provide students a timely feedback.

It is flexible in terms of time management for the students and even for teachers. Both of them can schedule their class session and do some other things during their vacant time. They can learn at their own pace which will develop within themselves the discipline and motivation in their studies that will let them know their learning styles and needs.

However, there are some disadvantages in distance learning because students will have to provide themselves with their own gadgets and computer or laptop to aid their studies most especially their internet connection. We know that not everyone can afford it. Another thing is that, teachers need to undergo trainings to be able to know how to do e-learning because not all teachers are computer literate. Exposure and distractions like background noise can be a big factor that can affect the delivery of the lessons. We have to make sure that we have a good internet connection to avoid disruptions during video conferencing.
