Tomás Melo Gouveia and Beatriz Themudo won the 30th edition of the FPG/BPI Cup, one of the Majors of national amateur golf, organized by the Federação Portuguesa de Golfe (FPG – Portuguese golf federation) at Ribagolfe 2, in Benavente. Beatriz Themudo, 20 years old, beat her CG Miramar team mate Rita Costa Marques, only 13 years old, by 1 up, i.e., the 36 hole final was decided on the very last hole. Beatriz Themudo had bested Catarina Inocentes in the semi final (3/2) and Ines Mendonça in the quarter final (6/5). Rita Costa Marques won her clashes with Ivete Rodrigues (semi final, 4/3) and Filipa Capelo (quarter final, 5/4). As for Tomás Melo Gouveia, 22 years old, of the CG Vilamoura, he beat Afonso Girão (19 yo, Oporto GC), 2/1, which means the final finished on the 35th hole. On his way to the title, Tomás Melo Gouveia beat Gustavo Guzzo (4/3 in the first round), Gonçalo Mata (3/2 in the second), Nathan Brader (4/3 in the quarter final) and Tomás Silva (3/2 In the semi final). Beatriz Themudo, de 20 anos, derrotou na final a companheira de equipa do Club de Golf de Miramar, Rita Costa Marques, de apenas 13 anos, por 1 up, ou seja, a final de 36 buracos foi mesmo decidida no último. Beatriz Themudo ultrapassara Catarina Inocentes nas meias-finais (3/2) e Inês Mendonça nos quartos de final (6/5). Para Beatriz Themudo, antiga campeã nacional de sub12, sub-16 e sub-18, este triunfo foi o culminar de dois anos de tentativas de ganhar um ‘Major’ amador no escalão etário principal, dado que, em 2015, foi 2ª no Campeonato Nacional Amador Peugeot e repetiu essa classificação em 2016, enquanto na Taça FPG/BPI de 2015 tinha sido eliminada nas meias-finais por Rita Costa Marques. “Sinto-me muito bem e acho que esta vitória foi bastante merecida. Sem dúvida que ganhar um torneio destes sabe melhor do que o 2º lugar no Nacional. A vitória é outra coisa. A 2ª é a 1ª das últimas e eu sentia que o objetivo não estava concluído”, disse.
