In November, Ricardo Santos for the second time in two years missed the cut for the final at the European Tour Qualifying School, in Spain, and will thus not be joining Ricardo Melo Gouveia and Filipe Lima on the 2017 European Tour, which means that there won’t be – for the first time – three Portuguese players simultaneously competing n the first European division. Ricardo Santo totalled 287 (73+68+73+73), +3, the same result as Finn Roope Kakko, who won the Madeira Islands Open BPI. Spaniards Alvaro Quiros (+6), winner of the 2008 Portugal Masters, and Pablo Martin (+4), winner of the 2005 Estoril Open also missed the cut, just like Argentine Estanilao Goya, who won the 2009 Madeira Open. The 34 year old Algarve player will thus remain on the European Challenge Tour for 2017, the second European division, where this year he finished 34th in the ranking, the Race to Oman. The same happened to Tiago Cruz, who by a single stroke missed the qualification for the final of the European Tour Qualifying School.

Ricardo Santos falhou em novembro o cut pelo segundo ano seguido na Final da Escola de Qualificação do European Tour, em Espanha, e já não irá juntar-se a Ricardo Melo Gouveia e a Filipe Lima no European Tour em 2017, impedindo que, pela primeira vez na história do golfe nacional, houvesse três portugueses a competir em simultâneo na primeira divisão europeia. Ricardo Santos totalizou 287 (73+68+73+73), +3, o mesmo resultado do finlandês Roope Kakko, que ainda há um ano e meio tinha ganho o Madeira Islands Open BPI. Também os espanhóis Álvaro Quirós (+6), campeão do Portugal Masters em 2008 e Pablo Martín (+4), vencedor do Estoril Open de Portugal de 2005, ficaram pelo caminho, tal como o argentino Estanislao Goyá, que se impôs no Madeira Islands Open de 2009. O algarvio de 34 anos vai, assim, manter-se no Challenge Tour em 2017, a segunda divisão europeia, onde este ano terminou no 43º lugar do ranking, a Corrida para Omã. A sina continua também para Tiago Cruz que falhou, por uma única pancada, o apuramento para a Final da Escola de Qualificação do European Tour.
