One two Three. It is the first time in a European Tour tournament that Portugal puts a trio of golfers among the favorites to the final victory. With the current Portuguese number 1, Ricardo Melo Gouveia, at the head of the return of the Portugal Open @ Morgado Resort to the main European circuit brings a question: what are the chances of Ricardo Santos, Filipe Lima and the aforementioned Melo Gouveia have, playing in Home, writing for the first time a Portuguese name in this trophy? Este ano está, pela terceira vez, de regresso ao principal circuito europeu depois de um 2016 muito forte no Challenge Tour. A ter em conta está também Ricardo Santos. O ‘Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year’ de 2012, venceu o Madeira Islands Open nesse ano, uma prova que, tal como o Open de Portugal, integra tanto o European Tour como o Challenge Tour. Santos, que conta com duas vitórias no Challenge Tour (Madeira em 2012 e Princess by Schüco em 2011) está a cumprir a segunda época nesta segunda divisão europeia, com um único objectivo: subir novamente ao European Tour. É por isso que o Portugal @ Morgado Resort reveste-se de especial importância. Uma vitória aqui garante logo uma promoção para o European Tour, e para aqueles que já têm cartão assegura um prolongamento de três anos entre a elite europeia do golfe.
Mas, a armada portuguesa não se resume aos três golfistas já referidos. Tiago Cruz, Pedro Figueiredo, Gonçalo Pinto, João Carlota, Tiago Rodrigues, Tomás Silva e João Ramos, a olhar para o ranking actual da PGA Portugal também terão uma oportunidade de jogar o Open. Os dois primeiros têm grande experiência no Challenge Tour, e atravessam um bom momento e podem também alcançar um bom resultado. Aos profissionais, juntam-se dois amadores que serão convidados pela Federação Portuguesa de Golfe, mais próximo da data do torneio. Que vença o melhor, e que o melhor, seja português.
