FPG REPRESENTED IN INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION

Portuguese Ana Conceição Gabin is part of the Joint Technical Commission of the USGA (North-American Golf Association) and the R&A (British entity that runs the sport in the world), entities that have just announced they are developing a world handicap system (WHS), promising news at the end of the year. Ana Conceição Gabin is Director for Handicaps and Course Rating at the Portuguese Golf Federation - PGF and President of the Handicaps and Course Rating committee for the European Golf Association (EGA), and is therefore considered an authority on the subject. There are presently six official handicap systems implemented in the world, the EGA Handicap System of the European Golf Association, which we use in Portugal, but also the CONGU (used in the UK and Ireland), the ones used by the United States Golf Association (which Canada recently aligned with), Golf Australia, the South Africa Handicap System and the one of the Argentine Golf Association. In total they grade over 15 million players with handicap in over eighty countries (there are many more players without handicaps). The project aims at revoking all six systems and unifying them, through the use of a package of principles and procedures that are applied globally.

Aportuguesa Ana Conceição Gabin integra a Comissão Técnica Conjunta da USGA (a Federação Norte-americana de Golfe) e do R&A (a entidade britânica que regula e regulamenta a modalidade em quase todo o Mundo), entidades que anunciaram estar a desenvolver um Sistema Mundial de Handicaps (WHS), prometendo novidades para o final do ano. Ana Conceição Gabin é a diretora de Handicaps e Course Rating da Federação Portuguesa de Golfe (FPG) e a presidente da Comissão de Handicaps e Course Rating da Associação Europeia de Golfe (EGA), sendo, por isso, considerada uma autoridade nesta matéria. Existem atualmente seis sistemas de handicap oficiais implementados no mundo, o Sistema de Handicap EGA da Associação Europeia de Golfe, que usamos em Portugal, e ainda os sistemas de handicap CONGU (Grã -Bretanha e Irlanda), o da United States Golf Association, o da Golf Australia, o South Africa Handicap System e o da Associação Argentina de Golfe. No total, abrangem um número superior a 15 milhões de jogadores com handicap em mais de 80 países (sem handicap o número de praticantes é muito superior). O projeto pretender evogar os seis sistemas diferentes de handicap que existem no mundo e unificá-los, através de um conjunto de princípios e procedimentos que venham a ser aplicados em todo o Mundo.
