Lisbon Cup

Salvador Costa Macedo was the absolute winner of the 100th edition of the Lisbon Cup, the second oldest trophy played uninterruptedly in Portugal, after the Skeffington Cup, of Oporto, the oldest one in the world, being played since 1889. The Lisbon Cup started being played in 1917 “as homage to the workers of the club,” and is presently part of the national FPG calendar, scoring for the national ranking. This year the Lisbon Sports Club, presided by Pedro Nunes Pedro, made a point of commemorating the hundredth edition with a superior organization: a course in mint condition, and a record number of players – 133, from 28 clubs throughout the country. The first edition of the Lisbon Cup was won by RO Coverly, and in 2016 the champion was Gonçalo Miranda. Salvador Costa Macedo, golf director for Penina after ten years at the head of golf at the Quinta do Peru, finished the two rounds of the Lisbon course with 141 strokes (73+68) gross, followed by his brother Luis Costa Macedo, director of the National Training Centre, at Jamor, with 145 (72+73). The two brothers started playing at the Lisbon Sports Club, where the whole family are still members. In Net score, Salvador was also first, with 139, followed by Patricia Nunes Pedro (141, 71+70), the first placed amongst Lisbon members, followed by João Inocentes (143). This competition, which gathered many of the best players in Portugal, also counted for the qualifying of the national ladies’ team which will play the European Championship..

Salvador Costa Macedo foi o vencedor absoluto da 100ª edição da Lisbon Cup, o segundo troféu mais antigo com disputa ininterrupta em Portugal, depois da Taça Skeffington, do Oporto, que é o troféu mais antigo que se realiza ininterruptamente em todo mundo e que começou em 1889. A Lisbon Cup começou a disputar-se em 1917 “como homenagem aos trabalhadores do clube” e atualmente integra o calendário nacional da FPG, pontuando para o ranking nacional. Este ano o Lisbon Sports Club, a que preside Pedro Nunes Pedro, fez questão de comemorar a centésima edição com uma organização de alto nível: campo em condições excelentes e um recorde absoluto de jogadores – 133 de 28 clubes de todo o País. A primeira edição da Lisbon Cup foi ganha por R.O. Coverly e em 2016 o campeão foi Gonçalo Miranda. Salvador Costa Macedo, diretor do Golfe da Penina depois de dez anos à frente do golfe da Quinta do Peru, concluiu as duas voltas ao percurso do Lisbon com 141 pancadas (73-68) gross, seguido do seu irmão Luís Costa Macedo, diretor do Centro Nacional de Formação do Jamor, com 145 (72-73). Os dois irmãos iniciaram-se no golfe no Lisbon, onde toda a família é ainda associada. Na classificação net Salvador foi também o primeiro com 139, seguido de Patrícia Nunes Pedro com 141 (7170), a primeira classificada entre os sócios do Lisbon, seguida de João Inocentes com 143. Esta competição, que reuniu muitos jogadores da alta competição nacional, pontuou ainda para o apuramento da seleção nacional feminina que irá disputar o Campeonato da Europa.
