BELGIUM INTERNACIONAL BOYS

Portugal’s Pedro Lencart and Daniel Rodrigues finished the Belgian International Boys (u-18) tied in eighth place with Frenchman Aurélian Douce, among 73 players, on the Old Course of the Royal Golf Club of Belgium, in the Flemish Tervueren. Pedro Lencart, who was the 91st Champion of The Boys Amateur Championship, and had no time to rest, finished with his best round of the tournament, shooting 66, 6 under par (with 8 birdies and 2 bogeys), to match the result also obtained on the final day by the winner, Belgian Adrien Dumont de Chassart. Pedro Lencart and Daniel Rodrigues totaled 285 strokes, 3 under par, while the winner, Dumont de Chassart, was 276, 12 under, leaving the runner-up, his compatriot James Meyer of Beco, 4 shots back. For Daniel Rodrigues, 14, it was another good result, almost a month after his victory at the 13th European Young Masters in Norway, a kind of European Under-16 Championship, at which he started the last day in third place. In Belgium it was all the more remarkable as he competed in the U-18 level. He closed with two rounds of 68, making 8 birdies and 2 eagles on holes of par-4, in both. The Portuguese team featured National Coach Nelson Ribeiro and four more boys: Gonçalo Teodoro, the national U-16 champion, finished in 38th place with 299, and Carlos Laranja was 45th with 305. At the end of three rounds there was a cut at the top 42 and ties (+10), leaving out Vasco Alves, by the minimum margin, and João Maria Pontes. In the girl’s competition, among 59 competitors, Joana Silveira finished 26th with 20 over par; and Sara Gouveia missed the cut. The winner was Italian Alessia Nobilio, at 4 under par

Daniel Rodrigues e Pedro Lencart terminaram o Internacional de Juniores da Bélgica (para boys, sub-18 anos) empatados no oitavo lugar com o francês Aurélian Douce, entre 73 participantes iniciais, no Old Course do Royal Golf Club of Belgium, na comunidade flamenga de Tervueren. Recém-sagrado campeão do 91.º The Boys Amateur Championship e sem tempo para descansar, Pedro Lencart finalizou com a melhor volta do torneio, 66 pancadas, 6 abaixo do par-72 (com 8 birdies e 2 bogeys), a igualar o resultado também obtido no último dia por parte do vencedor, o belga Adrien Dumont de Chassart. Para Daniel Rodrigues, de 14 anos, é mais uma boa marca no seu palmarés, quase um mês depois do 13º lugar no European Young Masters na Noruega, uma espécie de Campeonato da Europa de Sub-16 em que partiu para a última volta no terceiro lugar. Mas na Bélgica foi tanto mais notável quanto competiu no escalão de sub-18. Fechou com duas voltas de 68, no conjunto de ambas perfazendo 8 birdies e 2 eagles em buracos de par-4. Pedro Lencart e Daniel Rodrigues totalizaram 285 pancadas, 3 abaixo do par, ao passo que o vencedor, Dumont de Chassart, somou 276, 12 abaixo, deixando o vice-campeão, o seu compatriota James Meyer de Beco, a 4 shots de distância.A comitiva portuguesa contou com o Treinador Nacional, Nelson Ribeiro, e ainda com mais quatro jogadores na prova masculina: Gonçalo Teodoro, campeão nacional de sub-16, terminou no 38.º posto, com 299 e Carlos Laranja foi 45.º, com 305. Ao fim de três voltas houve um cut para os 42 primeiros e empatados e que se fixou em 226 (+10), o que deixou de fora no último dia Vasco Alves, pela margem mínima, e João Maria Pontes. Na prova feminina, entre 59 concorrentes, Joana Silveira ficou nas 26.ªs com 20 acima do par; e Sara Gouveia falhou o cut. A vencedora foi a italiana Alessia Nobilio, com 4 abaixo do par.
