Tomás Santos Silva é o n.º1 do circuito profissional português de golfe de 2017, ao terminar a época na liderança da Ordem de Mérito 1080 Produções, da PGA de Portugal. O jogador do Team Portugal jogou pela primeira vez uma época completa como golfista profissional e alcançou o feito de ser o n.º1 com este novo estatuto, exatamente um ano depois de ter sido o n.º1 do Ranking Nacional BPI, uma tabela publicada pela Federação Portuguesa de Golfe e destinada aos melhores amadores portugueses. Aos 25 anos, Tomás Santos Silva completa talvez as suas duas melhores épocas seguidas de sempre e manifesta-se, naturalmente, satisfeito: “Era um dos objetivos que tinha para a minha época. Sabia que não iria ser fácil, que seria preciso ser muito regular, para mais sendo um ‘rookie’”. A regularidade foi sempre um ponto forte do profissional do Club de Golf do Estoril nos tempos de amador e continua com essa característica. É verdade que em 2017 só ganhou um torneio, o seu primeiro título como profissional, no Estela PGA Open, mas, em contrapartida, só fez top-5 nas restantes provas: 2º no Optilink PGA Open, 4º no Solverde Campeonato Nacional PGA e 5º no Open da Final do Circuito PT Empresas. Tomás Santos Silva vai receber como prémio mil euros da 1080 Produções e sucede como n.º1 do circuito profissional português a Tiago Cruz, o n.º1 de 2016, 2015 e 2014, e a Hugo Santos, que também liderou durante três temporadas.
Tomás Santos Silva is number 1 on the Portuguese professional golf circuit for 2017, finishing the season in first place on the 1080 Productions Order of Merit. The Team Portugal member for the first time played a complete season as a professional golfer and achieved this new status exactly one year after he was No. 1 on the BPI National Ranking, a table published by the Portuguese Golf Federation designed to list the best Portuguese amateurs. At 25 years old, Tomás Santos Silva completes perhaps his best two seasons of his career and is naturally pleased: “It was one of the goals I had for this year. I knew it was not going to be easy, that I would have to be very consistant, to be better than the average rookie.” Consistancy has always been a strong point of the professional from the Golf Club of Estoril, in his amateur days and he continues with this characteristic. It is true that in 2017 he only won a single tournament, his first title as a professional, at the PGA Open Estela, but, in his consistant fashion finished in the top-5 in the remaining tournaments: 2nd in the Optilink PGA Open, 4th in the Solverde National PGA Championship and 5th in the Final of the PT Empresas Circuit. Tomás Santos Silva will receive a thousand euros prize from 1080 Productions and will follow as No. 1 on the Portuguese professional circuit Tiago Cruz, No. 1 in 2016, 2015 and 2014, and Hugo Santos, who also led for three seasons.
