Sofia Sá of Quinta do Peru and Tomás Melo Gouveia of the Vilamoura Golf Club won the Women’s and the Men’s competitions of the Portuguese Golf Federation Cup - BPI, which took place at the beginning of October at the Estela Golf Club, Póvoa de Varzim. Tomás Melo Gouveia, who is the Amateur National Champion of 2017, defeated his club mate Vítor Lopes (the 2014 winner) in the final, to become only the second player to revalidate the title in this competition that goes back to 1987, after João Pedro Carvalhosa in 1993-1994. Sofia Sá, on the other hand, defeated the National Under-18 Champion, Sara Gouveia, in the first hole of the play-off, becoming the youngest winner ever, at 13, surpassing Joana Silveira, winner in 2014 at 14. Sá succeeds Beatriz Themudo (Oeiras Golf) on the list of winners. “It’s an honor to be able to win this trophy again,” said Melo Gouveia, 23, after having won his third consecutive portuguese major (two Cups and one Championship). The brother of Ricardo Melo Gouveia has revealed that he will abandon his amateur status in November to pursue a professional career. In the 36 hole final Gouveia defeated Vitor Lopes on the 35th hole, with a favorable result of 2/1 (two holes up with one to play), after being behind by two at the end of the first 18 holes. “I felt that I played well all week, only the putting is that it was more or less, but this afternoon I managed to put some very important putts to go around in the match.”

E sucede a Beatriz Themudo (Oeiras Golf) na lista das vencedoras. “É uma honra poder ganhar este troféu outra vez”, disse Melo Gouveia, de 23 anos, após ter conquistado o seu terceiro major interno consecutivo (duas Taças e um Campeonato). O irmão de Ricardo Melo Gouveia revelou que vai abandonar o estatuto amador em Novembro para seguir uma carreira profissional.
