The Junior Open Championship

Two years after Pedro Lencart’s victory, in the last edition of the Junior Open, a mixed major (boys and girls) of the R&A for under-16 players, there was once again a Portuguese in evidence. Daniel da Costa Rodrigues of the Miramar Golf Club finished the tournament at Eden Course in St Andrews, Scotland, tied for 8th place with Denmark’s Adam Pedersen. The other Portuguese presence, Leonor Medeiros, closed in the 34th place overall and among the top-10 among the girls. After two rounds of 70 strokes, the golfer from Miramar arrived at the last day tied in sixth place, but a final round of 71 caused him to fall two positions.. The Junior Open, which takes place every two years on a course near the one that will host the British Open the following week, was attended this year by 135 boys and girls from more than 70 countries. The South African Martin Forster, who led from day one, won the tournament at five under par. Daniel da Costa Rodrigues, do Club de Golf de Miramar, terminou o torneio, que decorreu no Eden Course, em St, Andrews, Escócia, empatado no 8.º lugar com o dinamarquês Adam Pedersen. A outra presença portuguesa, Leonor Medeiros, fechou no 34.º lugar geral e dentro do top-10 entre as raparigas. Depois de duas voltas a marcar 70 pancadas, o golfista de Miramar chegou ao último dia no trio dos sextos classificados, mas uma ronda final de 71 fez-lhe cair duas posições. O Junior Open, que se realiza de dois em dos anos num campo próximo daquele que vai receber o British Open na semana seguinte, contou este ano com 135 rapazes e raparigas de mais de 70 países. Venceu sul-africano Martin Forster, que liderou desde o primeiro dia com cinco abaixo do par.
