Ashghal starts infrastructure project in Al Wajba East

-

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the commencement of the QR263mn Roads and Infrastructure Project in Al Wajba EastPackage 1, as part of the plan to provide an integrated infrastructure and an advanced road network throughout the country.

The project, located in the East Al Wajba area, west of Umm Al Dome Street and north of Rawdat Al Naser Street, is aimed at providing a network of internal streets in the area and raising the level of safety. These are in addition to creating an integrated infrastructure to respond to the requirements of the population and urban growth in the future.

Divided into three geographical areas, the project will be implemented in succession. Each phase will take one year for completion. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2023.

Engineer Mohamed al-Ateeq, project engineer from the Western Areas Projects Section at the Roads Projects Department in Ashghal, said that the project serves 368 citizens’ subdivisions in Al Wajba East. The project includes a 17km roads network that will enhance the traffic flow and provide connection with the future public facilities in the area. This is in addition to providing traffic safety elements such as street lighting systems, poles, signboards and road marking. There will also be 34km of shared pedestrian and cycle paths along with 2,570 parking bays.

Engineer al-Ateeq added that the infrastructure works in the project include a 14km-long sewage network, a 16.6-km surface and groundwater drainage network and a 10.7km treated water network in addition to extending potable water pipes and connecting them to the main drinking water network.

Local materials and manufacturers will be relied on in the implementation of the project. Materials and elements such as gabbro, columns, lighting lamps, signboards, sewage and rainwater drainage pipes, asphalt and prefabricated manholes in addition to concrete and steel reinforcement will be supplied from Qatari manufacturers. The target is for the local component to reach 85% of the project’s work. This comes as part of Ashghal’s support for local manufacturers and the Ta’heel initiative, launched in 2017.

The project is being implemented by Galfar Al Misnad Engineering and Contracting Company.
